Patrick Wanzer joined Paws & Think’s Board in December of 2019. He was looking for an opportunity to participate on a Board in a different way, and he says as a dog lover he was drawn to the way Paws & Think’s programs help both people and dogs. Patrick was interested in learning more about therapy dogs and was especially excited about supporting the Youth-Canine Program at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.
Patrick brings experience in leadership development and finance to Paws & Think’s Board of Directors. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Indiana University, and after working for several years in substance abuse prevention he decided to go back to school and obtained a Masters in Accounting from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Patrick is now a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist and is the Senior Manager at Somerset CPAs and Advisors.
When Patrick is relaxing after a busy tax season, he enjoys going to the movies, reading, watching TV, and going out to eat with his family. Patrick and his family took karate lessons together and he and his daughter are both Black Belts. Their family has hosted exchange students from Germany and The Netherlands, and his daughter currently goes to college in The Netherlands. Their family has a dog named Lucy who is a Pekingese-Shih Tzu-Chihuahua-Rhodesian Ridgeback.
Patrick loves interacting with dogs and mentions that he enjoyed helping with temperament testing for shelter dogs for the Youth-Canine program. He is looking forward to getting more involved with Paws & Think and hopes to continue helping with the Youth-Canine program. Patrick also serves on the Board for the Indiana Teen Institute, an organization focused on empowering teens to live a tobacco free lifestyle.
